[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Our very wet jackal (Black-Backed Jackal; Afrikaans: Rooijakkals; Canis mesomelas) was found hunting early one morning after the rains had fallen in the normally arid Kalahari of Botswana. One could see that rain is something this little fellow was not quite used to, he looked so uncomfortable. It was early winter and he looked cold as well. I tried to frame him with the bush on either side and the sunlight behind hom showing some hope of a warmer day.
These jackals are a commons sight in the Kalahari, being nocturnal and diurnal. They are some of the most adaptable animals on earth and knwon to be weary and cunning.
Their long drawn out calls at night contribute much to the African bush experience.

Hi Nico,

I really like the pose of the jackal. The jackal is looking straight into the camera. Very well done.

Hi Nico,

Nice image. It is sharp and well exposed. Usually we do not recommend centring subject, but here it's ok since the bushes on both side are framing your main subject and all viewer's attention is focused on the Jackal.

Excellent et very natural picutre. TFS.

HI Nico, the little fellow looks very wary of you, quite unsure of what you're doing with the camera in your hand!! Excellent pose, I can see him all ready to run if you move. Well captured, thank you...

Well done on exposure as the BG is very bright and not always easy to get the subject detailed in these instances. The Composition and detail shown are great under fairly tricky circumstances. TFS,

Hi Nico,
Excellent shot here. You managed the light very well with the darker area around the jackel and the brighert backround. Colors and detail look great. I love the pose with the direct eye contact. A lot of expression in that face. Very nice camera work!
