[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well, maybe not all that brave, but he does live in lion country! This little guy gave me a real challenge trying to photograph it. It lives in a hole under the fireplace in a campsite in Mabuasehube - the place the lions visit regularly as the camps are unfenced. He would come out and look me over, but as soon as I held the camera up to my eye he disappeared into his hole, only to start te game again after I put the camera away. In the end I won with nothing more than patience.
I could not help smiling because at the time the two of us were playing our little game of hide-and-seek the lions were no more than a 100 meters from us, roaring boldly into the night. I thought that maybe he came out of his hole every now and just then to listen out for them.
Sorry, I did try to look up the species, but cannot identify him for certain. But to me he is the little Brave Heart who lives with lions.

I remember quite the same adventure with the ground-squirrel of Namibia.

Hi Nico,
As with most nature photography, patience is necessary. You flash exposure was excellent here. Nice colors and sharp detail in this little fellow. He is pretty far down on the food chain so I imagine there are many many creatures that would make a meal out of him. I would be jumpy too.
