[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sitting next to the Kwai river in Botswana this bull elephant came from across the river walking directly towards us. The day had been getting warmer - the reason way we sat outside the vehicle having a drink - and this bull stopped in the river and decided to use his built-in shower to cool off.
Elephants drink about 160 Lit of water every day.
In the bush, if you are quite still they come very close. The trick is not to get panicky when they are close as they may see you as a threat and charge. We also try to stay up wind of them as they are then very restful. Once you are scented you can immediately see the difference in attitude.
Some bulls of course are simply miserable and will make your life quite interesting if you get in their way. Climbing a tree does not help much either, as they are big and strong enough to rattle the tree so much that you will not be able to hold on.
Tourist have been killed by these bulls because theyget toot close and sometimes hoot to get a reaction, and then the wrong kind of reaction.
But they are beautiful to watch in the bush, part of what makes Africa what it is.

Belle prise.
De plus voir un éléphant en action, comme ça dans l'eau ça change des images plutôt paisible que l'on a d'eux.

If I am right you were not just out of your car when you meet this giant,I think I would easy go in again,only for the thought,picture is very good composed and I think it was hot as you said as he is taking a sort of shower as well,well seen and bravely captured,

Hi Nico, excellent moment captured. He looks like he is really enjoying his shower. Excellent lighting, colours and details. The horizon line is a bit on the slant but only a slight niggle, still a great shot. One day I will come to S.Africa and hopefully witness the beauty for myself, until then I will continue to look at your photos with great interest. Thanks for sharing.
