This the pumphouse in the Mabuasehube Game Park in Botswana. There is a pride of lions (my dad Nico posted a close-up of this male earlier)that have made this their favourite resting place. On thes day the pride was resting under in the shade of some bushes 50 m or so from this pumhouse. As we turned around we noticed this big male taking his nap inside. Imagine being a worker and walking around this pumphouse and find this! Since the steel gate was broken off, what better guard...
This is a typical black maned Kalahari Lion, the largest lion and the most aggressive. They have to be extremely tough to survive the harsh conditions of the Kalahari. |

Hi Reinier
A very nice shot, and one undervalued because this is the type of thing one rarely encounters, and it is also a nice, big male.
And not stupid. he knows the cement floor is cool, and he is in the shade, and there are less ticks. TFS, a delightfull pic. Soory, I do not know where to turn my tail and do not get to see or comment as before.
Very pleasing capture. An once in a lifetime experience. Also very funny to see the lion in the "kleinhuisie" :)
Well done.
