The fern

Platycerium alcicornis Desv. is an epiphytic fern. It is found especially in plantations of coconuts and palms (as is the case on the submitted photo). It invades the trunks, forming nests sometimes enormous.

Its fronds are of two kinds:

The sterile fronds, flat and rounded, superimposed upon each other. They dry quickly and become brown. They are presented on the picture.

The fertile fronds are longer and more deeply cut. They are slightly hairy. They are implanted from the top to the down, in a descending disposition. Their lower faces bear the sporangia from which the spores are produced. Those spores enable the spread of bracken, by sexual reproduction.

The photograph was taken mid afternoon, under sunny skies, but with a relatively cloudy atmosphere. Given the quality of light, the opening was set at f/2.8 with a focal length of 20 mm. With a sensitivity equivalent to ISO-200, the speed was calculated at 1 / 200 th of a second.
