Red Sea Anemonefish (Amphiprion bicinctus)

Well, it’s not Nemo but it’s the same family (Pomacentridae). The Red Sea anemonefish is only spread in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden where you’ll find in depths of 1 to 30 meter circling around, or in one of the following species of anemones, Entacmaea quadricolor, Heteractis aurcra or Stichodactyla gigantean. The adults are extremely territorial, never stray very far from “their” anemone that provides shelter against predators by means of its nettling tentacles. There are many different species of clownfish: some fish live with only one species of anemone whilst others show no specific preference. Some live in anemones as juveniles and move to coral as adults. Some never move from their anemones; some will dart up to 6 feet out and "attack" yellow depth gauges or mouthpieces. Eggs are laid at the base of the anemone, and the parent often rubs the anemone causing the tentacle to extend, which in turn forms a protective canopy for the eggs of the fish.

The fishes themselves are protected by a method of “chemical stealth”. The tentacles of the anemone protect the clownfish from predators. At first contact with the anenome the clownfish jerks back, but gradually its mucus coating gives it immunity to the anemone's stinging nematocysts. The benefit to the anemone is probably down to the fish's swimming within its tentacles and wafting them around, thus increasing the water flow and hence the amount of oxygen available to the anemone. The anemone may also feed on the fish's waste material.

The photo is taken on 12 meters depth at the dive site Talata outside Hurghada. I've used one external Sea&Sea flash. Picture is slightly cropped otherwise untouched.

Very good composition, "Nemo" seems to look at you and the texture of the Anemone is great for the background. Didn´t you use flash for this one? Greetings.

You technic is very great for under water photographs, splendid the colours are great and fine, my compliments.

As is usual for you a very well imaged subject in good relation to it's suroundings. the note is also informative too
