New on TN: the Singing Bush Lark, mirafra cantillans.
A small lark, 13 cm, with a short, stubby bill and obvious white outer-tail feathers in flight. Display song is diagnostic. Most easily confused with the White-tailed Lark, but is paler above, with a uniform bill does not appear upturned. Differs from Friedmannís Lark by its paler plumage and less streaked upperparts. Legs are fleshy pink. When flushed, it frequently hovers before landing.

Habitat:
Open grasslands with scattered bushes.

Status:
Locally common.

Voice:
Mixture of jumbled chips and warbles, ending in trill; given in hovering flight or from bush top.

Hi Peter. We have had so many new birds on Tn of late and many thanks to you. I had not even heard of it let alone seen it. You were able to get a good close up showing the back and wing markings with good detail and natural colours. Stands out from the deep red soil. Well done TFS.
Nick,,

Have a good weekend.

Hi Peter,

Another first on TN!!! Congratulations. This Lark looks so small and he seems to be frowning at the camera. The details are exquisite of his face, wings, and tail feathers. I love the way they are outlined in white. The bird stands out well from the interesting looking environment.

Hi Peter,
This is so agreeable to see a new specie on TN; very interesting bird. I like this red soil that makes the bird stand out well. You also chose good composition with cute eye contact! Thanks for this educational capture!

I have a feeling this bird merges with the surroundings nicely, Peter.
Another wonderful picture from your trip to Africa.
The picture is beautiful, especially with other details in it than the bird; they create the right kind of impression of the place where this bird lives.
Regards,
ram
