[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sometimes you only go for a little, brown bird but this one is really a speacial one. An Endangered Yellow-throated Seedeater(Serinus flavigula-Sarı boğazlı İskete) which is endemic to Central Ethiopian Highlands and very rare; estimated global population fewer than 1000 individuals. Actually it has a funny but impressive story too, until recently known only from three 19th-century records, all within small area of c. 30 km2; rediscovered in Mar 1989, when seven individuals found in same area. This one, Melka Ghebdu (Dire Dawa) is a known site for this species and after a walk in the stream bed, a thirsty individual came to drink. A lucky moment followed by a very unlucky moment though with a fall to river and my binocular was damaged, water get inside to my Canon 400mm f/5.6 which was the only one in that trip. Thanks to Ethiopian sun and all night stand hairdryer heat, the mist inside the lens disappeared next day... Don't get too excited if you still walk on a mossy streambed even after such a rarity:D

Wow..... Emin,
This is very special! What a fantastic photo of this rare species. Yes, Ethiopia is full of bird treasures. I also found a few very rare species when I was there.
Great sharpness, splendid light and colours and taken from a perfect low POV. Excellent DOF and composition.
