The White-crested Helmet-shrike (Prionops plumatus), also known as the White Helmet-shrike, is a species of passerine bird in the helmetshrike family Prionopidae, formerly usually included in the Malaconotidae.

It is about 20 cm. Sexes are similar.

Distribution and habitat
It is found in most countries south of the Sahara. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, dry savanna, moist savanna, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.

It is a gregarious bird and they are always on the move as they forage among the foliage or on the ground. They chatter noisily to one another as they move through their territory.
Sociable, travelling in parties of six or more progressing in a series of short flights on a broad front, between bouts working twigs for insect prey.

Builds a neat cup nest on the upper side of a branch, often at a fork. Nest assistance by several members of a group frequently observed.

This is indeed a new species of Shrike here at TN, Peter, and we thank you for bringing it to us from your recent trip to Gambia.
The image is well captured against the background of a blue sky. The yellow circle around the eye is a beautiful feature of the bird in addition to its crest.
Thanks and regards.

Hola Peter...wow, que belleza de foto y de especie en ese display que nunca había visto, tremendo momento y una foto de lujo...saludos.

Hello Peter
Thanks for sharing this new species on TN. It brought a big smile to my face, I love it's crest, and the way it looks like a rock star. Nicely composed and sharp features. He's a real beauty. Great notes too.

Hi Peter
Eyecatching crest and, above all, that eye.
Interesting to know this species.

Hi Peter,
Prionops plumatus was one of my big target species. I looked for it in Ghana. Finally I found it in Uganda. You are more lucky to take photo. Great details, exposure and POV. Thanks for sharing this beauty. Well done.

Hi Peter,
Once again a beautiful novelty in T.N. Excellent detail and focus.
Amazing colors and nice background. Beautiful eyes.
Regards Jiri.

Hello Peter,
Thanks for showing such attractive species, which I haven't seen before. Excellent facial details with perfect exposure. But you missed its valuable parts of tail, due to horizontal capturing, I think. Moreover, branch, just behind its face, reducing aesthetic view, here. Otherwise a beautiful bird......
Thanks for sharing,
