The subject

Senna alata (L.) Roxb.

Common in West Africa, as well as in all Tropical Africa, of the familly Caesalpiniaceae.

It is ashrub up to 2-5 meters high. The paripinnate leaves are arranged in spirals. The inflorescence is a terminal raceme erected, 20-50 cm long, many-flowered. Bracts are elliptical, orange, enclosing the bud. The petals are oval wrap, bright yellow. The fruit is a winged pod, initially green, becoming shortly black.

The preferred habitats of Senna alata are open edges, including edges of rainforests. Senna alata occurs up to 2000 above sea level, but at low altitude it is more abundant. It supports an annual rainfall of 600-4300 mm and average annual temperatures of 15-30 C. It occurs both on heavy soils than sandy, acidic to slightly alkaline.

Many medical applications in traditional medicine.
