African Marabou - Marabout d'Afrique (Leptoptilos crumeniferus)

Order - Ordre: Ciconiiformes
Family - Famille: Ciconiidés

Enormous, balding scabby head, ugly, having an imposing beak, are the four qualifiers which characterize the best the African marabout. All these details, being added to the slate gray top, the whitish lower part, the long legs, dirty, make this bird very recognizable. The adults can present a pendulous pink air sac when the neck is outstretched. On the ground, the marabouts adopt a very characteristic position: upright with the head returned in the shoulders or sat on the tarsi. In flight, contrary to the others ciconiiformes, they fly the folded up neck like herons.

Photograph reposted after correction.
Original digitized on a scaner AGFA SnapScan e50, then improved with Photoshop CS as follows:
Reinforcement of dark tone: 70%
Attenuation of light tone: 10%
Contrast: +30
Luminosity: +15
Intensification with profit of 150% and one radius of 4 pixels.

By hoping that in spite of the ugliness of this bird, you will like the photograph, I will be happy to know your criticisms.

Hi (again) J-Patrick. This is an improvement of your scanned photo I commented on y'day. Sharper and easier to see. Scanned photos often lose a lot of clear details, but this fella is very interesting to see. Thank you for sharing.
Sorry, points all gone!
