The lemur is undoubtedly the most famous animal of Madagascar, many have asked me for photos of this species, and here you are content. Here we see a female lemur macaque, an endemic species of Madagascar. This species is very common on the island of Nosy Komba, where it can also be approached, especially if you bring bananas. It mainly lives in the rainforest, both primary (that is still intact) and secondary (forest grown back following a cut); with the increasing anthropization of its range, the species has adapted to live also in plantations and public gardens. Throughout its range, the maca maki is considered a bearer of bad news and it is generally a taboo to kill one: on the island of Nosy Komba is considered a messenger of the underworld and killing one means attracting the wrath of the souls of the dead on the village of the killer.
