These Village Weaver colonies strip the ends of the palm fronds. When they nest on other trees, as they frequently do, they still strip palm frond to build their nests with. If too much is removed the trees die. This exotic species is doing so well here that they have become a pest.

This evening shot shows the outline of colonial nesting. Presumably the stripping of the fronds was originally a method of defence against preditors

Hello Geoffrey,
Normally one would think this is underexposed, but your intent to show the effects of the Village Weaver on the palm fronds made this a necessity. The palm in this condition reminds me of a peacock with tail feathers fully spread. I would never have guessed the birds could do such extensive damage to this particular plant if it wasn't for your image. TFS.
