Centaurea pungens Pomel, in Bull. Soc. Sci. Phys. Algérie 11: 29 (1874)
=Calcitrapa pungens (Pomel) Holub, in Preslia 45: 143 (1973)

Annual plant that forms clumps branched, covered with very short hairs. Leaves elongated, very slightly, and wrinkled at the edges, not spiny. Flowers in capitulum, pale pink or purple, surrounded by prickly bracts.
Grows on rocky & sandy soils in arid areas. Distribution: south of Mediterranean region, north of Africa, Sahara.
