From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Western Sahara Arabic: الصحراء الغربية‎ aṣ-Ṣaḥrā’ al-Gharbīyah; Spanish: Sahara Occidental; Berber: Taneẓroft Tutrimt) is a disputed territory in the Maghreb region of North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its surface area amounts to 266,000 square kilometres (103,000 sq mi). It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, mainly consisting of desert flatlands. The population is estimated at just over 500,000, of which nearly 40% live in El Aaiún, the largest city in Western Sahara.

Hi Jiri, one of the most big emotion of my life, when the desert appear after a long road it's a fantastic spectacle. A great memory for you and for me too,i have a pic taken some year later from the same pov,you can see that at this link ( http://beta.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=5&p=1325213 ) .. i hope you will like it,and thanks for this great shot from your fim archive.Luciano.

You take us back 17 years with this picture of the desert taken with the equipment the then available, Jiri. Transparency technology was the best then and I have a huge collection of slides from my trekking era when I was younger.
In this picture, the contrasts are fabulous.

hello Jiri
une magnifique vue, j'aime bien la couleur, la lumière et les ombres formées par le sable.
Bon dimanche

Hello Jiri,
Nice to view this lovely image from the past which you were able to scan for us. I like the rippled-like shadow designs which formed on the back side of the mountains due to the contrasting light. The vivid reddish soil reminds me of the terrain in some of our western US. states. The hint of a blue sky made a beautiful BG for this unique shot.

Hello Jiri,
Nice and very interesting landscape. Great colors, very good DOF and clarity.
