This photograph is captured at Le Mirage Desert Lodge. The lodge is situated close to Sesriem on the C27. We’re looking to the west here. Altitude 736m. Coordinates S24 40.969 E15 48.884. wikimapia and if you zoom out a bit you’ll get this.

Yes, the sun was setting in the west that particular day. Very strange:-).
Apparently these mountains in the background have no name. I checked this on the map and also through Garmin’s Mapsource with a T4A GPS Namibia map installed. No name… anyway we’re approx. 110 km away from the Coast Line. The only problem getting to the South Atlantic, is that you’re walking straight into one of the oldest deserts on earth, the Namib desert. Believe me…
You’ll never make it. The desert is harsh. I experienced that the next day when I did a 2km hike to Deadvlei (Sossusvlei). If you do this(don’t do it)…do this hike at sunrise when the temperature and the sun are still under control. Never ever again for this dude…
About the photo…
Sunset images aren’t really my cup of tea as the colors are often too random. It’s a bit too easy in terms of photography. Nevertheless I posted this photo ‘cause of a few reasons:
Sun isn’t visible.
Secondly it was quite an awesome experience and that’s an understatement. But this is no argument in terms of photography but…
(and lastly) I did my best to paint the original atmosphere through editing and slight adjustments in Adobe.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it and please don’t hesitate to share your negative critique(s) as well.
Thanks for looking…

Hello Annick
good hand of lights and shadows and beautiful contrast between mounts and the sky. The soft tonalities optimally balanced render this desert landscape nearly unreal.
Happy new year

Hi Annick

This is a splendid sunset!
I have absolutely no negative criticism to give this shot! Honestly.
I love the tones and the colors everywhere and how well the contrast with each other - the warmer FG and the sky against the cooler tones of the far away hills.
The perspective is also excellent and the simplicity of the composition and its elements is exactly what makes this work so well.
Very nice framing and pp, too!

BRAVO, TFS and Happy holidays mt friend!

Hello Annick,
Simple image that has great appeal: the composition and colours are great and the there is almost a 3-D effect with the different layers of the hills. I agree with you about sunsets and this is a good way of emphasising the effects rather than taking the direct setting sun.
Well done and TFS!
Ivan

Hi Annick, another superb landscape shot from Namibia desert. Colours and composition are great.
TFS this MF.
Cheers,
Bayram

Hoi Annick,
Dit is wel een erg mooie foto. het zachte licht en de zachte pastel kleuren zijn echt super. Een erg mooie compositie en het effect van de telelens maakt het lage perspectief alleen maar mooier. Een foto die direct naar mij fav's gaat.
Groeten,
Niek

I really like this shot, it is so clean and smooth. Nice colours too,
TFS

Hi Annick,

The light is really nice.
Great atmosphere.
Excellent composition.

I think this is the best landscape shot I've ever seen which was taken with a 400mm lens :-D

Very well done,
