I think this might be the Orange-winged Dropwing (Trithemis kirbyi).
There's a better image of this specie in wikipedia here.
My shot is quite a crop.
It's captured in Xaragu Camp, situated between Torra Bay and Khorixas. C39 minor road. Province is Kunene.
In Damaraland.
Thanks for looking.

From wikipedia...
It is a species of dragonfly in family Libellulidae. It is found in Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly Burundi. It is also common in southern Europe, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean Islands and South Asia - India.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, dry savanna, moist savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, rivers, and inland karsts.

From wikipedia
Damaraland was a name given to the north-central part of what later became Namibia, inhabited by Herero-speaking people, who in the 19th century were often referred to by outsiders as "Damaras". It was bounded roughly by Ovamboland in the north, the Namib Desert in the west, the Kalahari Desert in the east, and Windhoek in the south.
In the 1970s the name Damaraland was revived for a bantustan in South West Africa (present-day Namibia), intended by the apartheid government to be a self-governing homeland for the Damara people. A centrally administered local government was created in 1980. The bantustan Damaraland was situated on the western edge of the territory that had been known as Damaraland in the 19th century.
Damaraland, like other homelands in South West Africa, was abolished in May 1989 at the start of the transition to independence.
The name Damaraland predates South African control of Namibia and is the subject of an entry in the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica.

Hallo Annick,

Hi Annick

This is absolutely SUPERB!
I love how you used the DOF here and took advantage of the beautiful bokeh that this lens gives...the result is really very eye-pleasing!
The upper POV is also lovely and lets us enjoy the whole head and body of this dragonfly in excellent focus.
The colors, needless to say, are amazing and (if needed) bring out the subject even more from the shot.
Very well composed and presented.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Annick,
I like this delicate and beautiful orange-red ballerina. Composition is original with very nice blurred background. Despite the big crop details are very good and you cute model stands out well. Beautiful!

That is a masterpiece, Annick, so beautiful and original. To my eyes, it is perfect with the dof right on the dragonfly, red and bright, against one of the most beautiful background you could get, with superb colours and light. Congratulations, it is a piece of art, you're always good with animal portraits and you just came into the insect portraits door!

Hello Annick,
I love it when dragonflies stand upright like this due to the heat, they look so beautiful! Unusual to see you posting an insect but your skills here are the same as ever - brilliant! Great sharpness and wonderful colours that makes it stand out so well against the grey background.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

This beautiful dragonfly looks like an acrobat on the tip of the branch. Wonderful timing to capture this marvelous pose. Colors and details are superb enhancing his beauty. The lighting, background and composition are superb. I think Wikipedia should substitute their picture with yours!

Hi Annick!

We see a lot of dragonflies here on TN, but - from my point of view - yours is outstanding. The shapes of the background and the blurred haulmes suit the shape of the dragonfly very much. This is also true for the colours. Moreover, I believe your picture does not suffer too much from the fact it is cropped.

Kind regards
