[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A meerkat is not a cat, but is a suricate, a member of the mongoose family. (The name meerkat is the general Afrikaans term for mongoose.). Although they sometimes sit up like prairie dogs they are no relation. When stiffly sitting or standing they are most likely scanning for danger. Vocal communication consists of: murmuring (any activity); growling and spitting (offensive threat); clucking (scolding); peeping (guard's assurance that he's on duty); a clear drawn-out call (avian predators); waauk-waauk, a gruff warning call (ground predators); alarm bark (defiance); and a soft wurruck-wurruck (contentment).

Definatley a typical lookout pose for a Meerkat, nice capture would of been nice to see the end of the tail but you cannt have every thing.
Now a silly question what was conected to ether side of the teleconverter?

Hi Scott
This is how they should look - fat and fluffy, & the sharp eyes alert. Mirr, mirr, they are some of my favourite carnivores. The Prairy dogs are rodents, as far as I know. That id the main difference between the two groups.
I see he has been into some hole, investigating for scorpions or other tasty morsels!

This is a beauty Scott! I like the pose a lot and the sharpness is excellent. Excellent exposure as well.

Very well done and thanks for posting.

Beautiful photo of an animal I like a lot.
We've seen an orphaned meerkat in Serra Cafema, that was adobted by the architect of our lodge... it was the cutest little thing and you could really play with it. Aply it was called Naughty :-)
Its a pity I do not have photos of it , but we took some video of it.
