Hi All

This is my very first photo on Trek Nature, so I thought this smiley face would be appropriate.
I took this photo of the Water Lily in a pond on a farm near Melmoth recently, and really enjoyed it. Hope all of you like it too.

Please feel free to send me critiques and advice.
I really would like to learn more about photography and nature, so any advice would be great.
Thanks for the great website and all who share there wonderful pictures, stories and lives with us.

Thanks to Ori, this is a Nymphaea nouchali.

Common Names: Blue Water Lily, Blouwaterlelie, Kaaimanblom, Frog's Pulpit, Paddapreekstoel, Blou Plomb, iZubu(Z)

Critiques [Translate]

Hallo Chris
Welkom by Trek Nature.
Jou foto is treffend. Ek hou baie daarvan. Ek persoonlik hou van so 'n 'groot' foto.
Vriendelike groete
Anna

Hello Chris & Ruth

Hartlik welkom by TrekNature. So sien ek bv. het Dr. Ori Sapir julle reeds "ontdek".

M.a.w. dit is nie net 'n foto stoorplek soos meeste ander fotografies sites nie. Inteendeel.

Mooi so vir 'n eerste.
Groete
Loot

NS. Dankie dat jy my 'n gunsteling gemaak het. Ek waardeer dit.

Welcome, this is great! You must thank the flies!

hello Chris

Welcome to TN community with your 1st post entry of a smile :) and nobody can say this is not appropriate post for TN for sure.

One thing stands out to amaze me, the good resolution, clarity and sharpness of this shot, even down to the choice of black BG, the circular ripple rings on the water, the exposure, the insects on the flower, color tone and the capture is done by a pocket camera! I must say in the hands of a good photographer, the A470 has produced a great photo macro here. And I cannot imagine this is only your 1st post entry here for this smile.

I also find the green leaf at the left to be a nice inclusion, if not for the contrast but also for the shape. I wish my 1st shot of a lily can be this way and my 1st post is as smiley as this :). No harm, we will carry on some friendly competition; score Chris 1-0.

I hope you will bring more smiles in next post, perhaps a pink one. Excellent 1st post!

Greetings from Malaysia.
tfs, bill

Bonjour Chris,

Ciao Chris, great macro with fantastic flower, splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Dear Chris,
what a cheerful eye-catcher to start the New Year and trigger your career here at TN! My congratulations to you for this powerfully concentrated composition of high aesthetial appeal, taken with precision and a perfect handling of light. A sheer pleasure to see all the fine details in the bright petals, and at the same time to be able to plunge into the deep darkness of dark waters equally well dissolved. So nice to see the concentric rings of wave in the waters, perfectly imbedded into the composition. A poetical masterpiece.
You ended my winter depression making me smile with your lily - thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

P.S.:
Thank you for your visit and very kind words to that butterfly image a few days ago!

Hi Chris,
thanks for visiting my post and give me a lively notes that motivate me a lot. Im not a good photographer, but i try my best.
you have captured this exciting lily in a very stylish shot. The presence of the insects in the petals really give a different shot. Very special and the effect is so stunning.
The colour contrast is very lively and the dark gackground make this shot jumped out of the canvas.
congratulations.

Regards,
Foozi

A beautiful piece of art. Chris.
An excellent POV that brings out the symmetry of the flower in a lovely composition.
The exposure is perfect, bringing out the white petals and the brilliant yellow center.
The details are enhanced by the dark BG,
and the drops of water add to the interest of the picture.
