Penkop is an Afrikaans word meaning a young male impala. An adult male has lyre-shaped horns.
Here the horns are still in a developing phase.
I captured a few flies as well. Searched the web in order to identify the flies. All I found was that a fly-in safari is quite expensive...
The capture time was approx 06:00. Apparently the weather wasn't sunny and so the amount of light was limited. So, I was quite lucky to avoid camera shake and to have a cooperative model.

More info about this species in my theme "Vanderschelden's impalas".

Digital workflow:
Lightroom 2.1
Camera Raw v5
Photoshop CS4

Hope you'll enjoy:-)

Hello Annick

This is silky smooth.
Awesome POV,this is a wonderful impala portrait.
The details are sharp and the focus is precise.
Excellent natural colours ,great use of the light.
The DOF is well done, the OOF BG looks terrific.
Masterful work.

Hi Annick,
Very good portrait of this juvenile Impala with great pose and composition, sharp details, nice colours and BG.

As soon as I saw the title I was tempted and it worked..I came on in to see why this was not tiled Imapala..(*my favorite Chevrolet..I hope they do not go away)... and one can tell by your majestic poses of classic animals, that you are either driving an old beater or a very nice Volvo...I am wondering..what kind of car do you drive. This always tells a lot about a person:-)

Hi Annick,
Very nice photo, with good focus on the Penkop's eyes. I like the it's look in its eyes, do you know what it's watching? Lovely indeed
TFS and cheers,

nice one, TFS Ori

Hello Annick,

This is an other exceptional portret of an young impala. The image is amaisingly sharp. It looks like the animal wanted to be photograpeh and stood still. You prouved again you excelent skill in taking such photos.

Hi Annick!

Your picture remembers me Anna's posting. It's a beatiful portrait of such a nice animal. The lighting, the colour tones and the composition highlight the neat look of it.

Kind regards

Hello Annick
I really fancy this image of the "Penkop" Impala. Those tiny horns are very eye-catching and I found myself looking for them while we were in the Kruger. Not only the young Impalas but all the young male antelope with their horns in the stage of development. It really fascinates me as it gives a total different view to the more mature buck. You presented a great close up of this young male Impala. Its big ears are truly adorable, and look quite alert and awake. Superb details captured in the face area, especially the white on the chin, and the beautiful back eyes cannot go unnoticed. Great eye contact captured. Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,

I like very much the crop you chose for this image. The eye are so attractive. Sharness and exposure llo really good. There does seem to be a slight blue cast to the image???
