[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This image was taken in the Addo elephant national park about 100 km north of Port Elizabeth. although there are a lot of elephant in the park the vegetation hinders good sightings except at the water holes and a few open areas.

Some Elephant facts

Adults weigh from 3.5 to 7 tonnes
Shoulder height is 2.5 to 4 metres
Both males and females normally have tusks although cows are usually tuskless in Addo as there have been no natural enemies, lion etc until their introduction lately..
The Addo population is over 400 with an increase of 7% per annum
Longevity is 55 to 60 years with cows living longer than bulls
Gestation period is 22 months and the calf weighs about 110kg at birth
Twins have only been born three times in Addo
Elephant reach maturity by about 12 years of age
Elephant consume 200 to 300 kg of plants per day
They drink up to 200 litres of water per day
The trunk is controlled by about 60 000 muscels
The cows in a group take joint responsibility for the young

Lovely image of these two together. Love the composition of them both facing exactly the same way, shows the big and small. Wonderful sharpness and detail with great colour.

Hi Robin. To thinkthis was taken with a 70 -300 len it a very good close up. You have captured fine detail in the rough skin with rich colours. The young young has such large ears. wel ldone TFS.

Hello Robin,
Good image again.
Both animals are sharp. It's well composed.
You can almost see this isn't Kruger flora-wise. However I've never been there in the summer period.

Very nice light intensity on both the elephants as well as the background with a good contrasting effect between the two.Nice angle,well focused and good detail.Free space to their path of movement. Well done.

What a scene, the elephants with opoen ears, the focus is very good and the color as well.
