My first bad image, I mean 'bat':-).
What do I know about bats? Some old school knowledge)-:.
In my opinion they are not vampires:-)
I was busy chasing Tree squirrels for a free photo session while they were chasing each other and then suddenly 'something' came out of the tree and 'perched' in another tree(I think it was some kind of palm tree; the long leaves are depicted blurred in the background; maybe someone knows the tree ID). Then I saw what it was. A bat. Surprisingly they were flying in broad daylight?
Could find the exact ID. It is a pity this beautiful animal isn't listed in the Kruger map. I think it has to cope with a bat image. I mean bad image.

Some basic data from wiki...

A bat is a mammal in the order Chiroptera. Their most distinguishing feature is that their forelimbs are developed as wings, making them the only mammals in the world naturally capable of flight (though other mammals, such as flying squirrels, gliding flying possums and colugos, can glide for limited distances). The word Chiroptera comes from the Greek words cheir "hand" and pteron "wing," as the structure of the open wing is very similar to an outspread human hand with a membrane (patagium) between the fingers that also stretches between hand and body.

400 ASA.
PP in Lightroom and PS CS3.

Thanks! Wish you everything but a bat(I mean bad)day.

Hi Annick, this looks like a young fliying dog, they eat fruit and also hang in the trees during day.
With the fine soft monochrome palet you achieved a really sweet portret of this fellow. Everything is soft in color except those incredible shinny eyes. Great compo and sharpness as usual.
I love it!

Hello Annick,
Superb sharp well composed capture of some species of Fruit Bat in excellent lighting. I am no bat specialist but someone like Ahmet (Roussetus) might give you the ID of this fruit bat.
TFS this fine image,

Hi Annick, This is exquisite! The focus, light, pose, bright eye light, BG, etc ,etc are all superb! I'll take this for my favorites, Thank you. Richard

This is a Very professinal shot. Everything was done perfectly, your composition, exposure and sharpness are right on the spot. And you've acheived a very nicely blurred background, while keeping the whole bat in good focus. Well captured!

Hi Annick,

Not bad for first bat! Very good indeed with sharp details, nice colours, composition, DOF.

great pic! TFS Ori

Impressionnant, j'en reste bouche béée ! Quel oeil, on dirait une bille métallique !

Witaj Annick,

Fabulous image of this Fruit Bat!
Looks a bit like a Straw-coloured Fruit Bat but that's just the result of a bit of searching on google. See here.
Very good detail in the velvety fur and superb clarity.
Exceptional BG and a great DOF.
Brilliant reflection in the eye which brings this shot to life.
Well done Annick!

Hi Annick

A great shot - good composition and POV with good colour and superb detail. Well observed and captured. I saw three of these in Umfolozi - we had stopped at a small rest stop and bought a sandwich - I had the feeling I was being watched, looked up and there were three of these looking down from the thatch.

A beautiful specimen with a face like that of a small fox Annick, in fine focus and natural colouration. I can almost see a reflection of you in that huge eye, and that detail of the hanging foot is so nice. TFS and cheers,

Hi Annick,
Great detail!! They're so strange looking, but cute at the same time. It resembles a Chihuahua dog with wings.. ;-) Your composition, and fine detail have made a beautiful photo.

What an extremely bad........................ euhhhhhh...............I mean extremely wonderful bat image Annick........lol.
Really lovely shot and I had to laugh loudly reading your note to it :)

Wonderful warm color tones and details.
Technically perfect shot with outstanding sharpness and composition.
The clarity in the eye of the bat is very beautiful and I love the pose and the way it seems to look at you while you were taking this shot.
It holds the wings like Zorro did with his cape in his better days :)
Thanks for sharing this beauty Annick. Right in to my favorites.

Kindest regards, Harry

Hi Annick,
Excellent shot with immaculate sharpness and clear details. Superb lighting, exposure and natural colours and I like that glowing eye. Excellent DOF isolates it effectively from the similar colours of the BG and a well chosen POV to portray it. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Annick,
It's beautiful... Looks so sweet. Warm lighting , color tones, pose you captured, details and composition are very good. TFS
Best wishes,

Hello Annick,
I think it's the first time I am coming across such a fine quality bat picture. Though there is a place near our home where you can find hundreds of bat in various shapes and size, they all rest in tall tree , never your eye level. So I am amazed to see your model posing for you in broad day light and with such alert look.
Excellent POV and great sharpness and clarity in the picture.Nice blurred background and natural colour tones. And most of all i liked the coy look and the twinkle in its eye.
Truly a splendid capture!!
Thanks for the share,
