[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On one of the first days of our krugertrip,we met a couple of klipspringers on the H3 (near a rocky area) on a morning drive from Pretoriuskop to Skukuza,this picture shows the male of this couple,hope you like him and tfw.

The Klipspringer (literally "rock jumper" in Afrikaans), Oreotragus oreotragus, also known colloquially as a mvundla (from Xhosa "umvundla", meaning "rabbit"), is a small African antelope that lives from the Cape of Good Hope all the way up East Africa and into Ethiopia.

Reaching approximately 58cm (22 inches) at the shoulder, Klipspringers are relatively small animals compared to some of their larger antelope cousins. Only the males have horns that are usually about 20-25cm (4-6 inches) long. They stand on the tips of their hooves.

With a thick and dense speckled "salt and pepper" patterned coat of an almost olive shade, Klipspringers blend in well with the kopje (rock outcrops, pronounced "kah-pee") on which they can usually be found.

Klipspringers are herbivores, eating rock plants. They never need to drink, since the succulents they subsist on provide them with enough water to survive.

The mating season for Klipspringers is from September through to January. The gestation period is about 214 days.

This little antelope is not so common in Kruger. At least you don't spot it a lot.
It's definitely photographed in its habitat. Pretoriuskop and its environment wasn't part of my itinerary last year. And the only time I spotted a pair of Klipspringers was close to Lower Sabie.
Very good focus and exposure.
You can't see this in your image but it is fascinating to observe the way they stand on the tips of their hooves.

Hallo Paul,
Je zult het maar treffen, een klipspringer zo te kunnen fotograferen met een 300 mm. Jammer dat hij er niet helemaal op staat. Maar de scherpte en de aftekening tegen de lucht zijn schitterend. En dan ook nog rustig jouw kant op kijkend, i.p.v. wegvluchtend. Erg mooi.

Hi Paul. What a cut looking animal. You have taken such a clear well detail picture. I like the POV with the Klipspringer looking down at you. warm colours that stand out from the clear blue sky. well done TFS . good notes too.
