Burchell's Zebra / Equus burchellii

Today the 4th April 2009, Loot and I celebrates our 28th wedding anniversary. I would like to dedicate this posting to all married couples. I am sure there are many wedded pairs that have been married for much longer than the 28 of ours, and many who have just done the "For better or worse:" vow. Therefore this is for you, being married for 1 month or 35 years. Congratulations.

Looking at this image, people can see it in different ways and interpreted it otherwise. In marriage it can also be like that. What do you see looking at this image? Is it a playful bite from one to another, maybe some sweet whisperings in the ear, or is it a bitchy snatch to the other. The scene on your screen is for you to decide what you see, or what you think you see!

I photographed these zebras in the Vryheid Hill Nature Reserve. I always wanted to capture a zebra with some kind of "funny" facial expression and this is the closest I got to it. Technically not the best photograph but the motion and emotion captured makes it worth for posting and sharing. I enjoyed this outing in the reserve tremendously as I walked all over the veld, taking photographs of all the beautiful wildflowers, for example "My special Christmas wish" and plenty other interesting insects, example "Colourful Lovers" that I have posted in the past.

LOVE & MARRIAGE
A student asks a teacher, "What is love?"

The teacher said: "In order to answer your question, go to the wheat field and choose the biggest wheat and come back. But the rule is: you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the field, went through the first row, he saw one big wheat, but he wonders, maybe there is a bigger one later. Then he saw another bigger one, but maybe there is an even bigger one waiting for him.

Later, when he finished more than half of the wheat field, he start to realize that the wheat is not as big as the previous ones he saw, he knew he has missed the biggest one, and he regretted. So, he ended up went back to the teacher with empty hands.

The teacher told him: "This is love, you keep looking for a better one, but then later you realise, you have already missed the right person".

"What is marriage then?" the student asked.

The teacher said, "In order to answer your question, go to the corn field and choose the biggest corn and come back. But the rule is the same as the previous, you can go through them only once and cannot turn back to pick."

The student went to the corn field, this time he was careful not to repeat the previous mistake, when he reached the middle of the field, he has picked one medium corn and felt satisfied, and came back to the teacher. The teacher told him, "This time you brought back a corn, that you looked for and is just right and nice, and you have faith and believe this is the best one you got. This is marriage."

I hope you enjoyed looking at this photo as much as I took pleasure in taking it.

Hello Anna,
A very original idea to bring this picture and your thoughts about marriage. At first Congratulations for your 28th wedding anniversary. I start to think that on TN there are a lot of very solid couples, having shared quite a lot of time together. That's just great.In my country every third or even second couple gets divorced!
The interpretation of your picture depends I think a lot from the mood of the moment..

I'm sorry, I'm a bit late, but I had some problems of my own to deal with and was absent from Tn for a week - but I am back now, and I want to congratulate you for your 28th wedding anniversary ! (that's more than my whole life ;-)The picture is wondeful, too - for me it reminds me the times when I playfully fight with my friend and we end up laughing so hard we are in tears ! :-) It's a great picture, made me smile, perfect to celebrate such an important event.

This is a fine capture of this Burchell's Zebra pair taken from a great low POV to show a bit of pair bonding in action: a love bite? Technically superb and the composution perfect.

I love these animals (this species) so much and can watch them for ages. You managed to reflect a very nice and touching moment and scene. I saw this a couple of weeks ago, but didn't have time then to comment. It is a wonderful photo and a wonderful tribute to that delightful natural phenomenon of pair bonding. Your 28 years is to be applauded (I know what it's like- it will be 34 for my wife and me next month).

There is one important question you must answer about this picture (or if you want, let Loot answer). Which zebra is you and which one is Loot?
