Kite attacking Goshawk
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
While driving in the game-viewing area of the Camdeboo National Park, in the Karoo region, we stopped to watch this Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk (Melierax canorus) sitting on the top of a tree. After a while we saw the Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus caeruleus) coming flying and attacking the goshawk repetitively. I don't know what was the story behind, but it probably involved defending a nest...
The Black-shouldered Kite must have had a good reason to attack, since it is about 33 cm in size, while the Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk is 48-63 cm! |

Hello Odile,
What a fantastic sighting. The Kite is in perfect focus and good detail and one can see that the Goshawk is all ruffeled. I hope it was not eating the little ones of the Kite. Well done and tfs.
Regards
Natley
