he Transvaal lion (Panthera leo krugeri), also known as the Southeast African Lion, is a subspecies of the Lion that lives in southern Africa, including Kruger National Park and the Kalahari Region.[1] It is named after the Transvaal region in South Africa. The male has usually a well-developed mane. Males are around 2.6–3.20 meters long including the tail. The females are 2.35–2.75 meters. The weight of males is generally 150–250 kg, while the females are 110–182 kg. They have a shoulder height of 0.92–1.23 meters. They eat wildebeest, zebras, Cape buffalo, warthogs, and occasionally baby giraffes if their normal prey is scarce.

Fabulous portrait of an African Lion, Mr. Veltchev.
Once again, a classic image in every respect.
You now stand apart as a world class nature photo artist and your occasional appearance here is a benediction.
Hats off to you!

Hallo George
This is a stunning portrait. In a way a bit dramatic and in a way artistic. The way you presented it makes the lion stand out to be the definite king of the wilderness. Best regards and thanks for sharing.

Superb portrait of this no less magnificent Transvaal Lion. You've really given it a dramatic atmosphere clouding and obscuring the composition as a vignette, the environment of the head and mane. The expression of serene nobility (somewhat sleepy) of this male veteran is admirable (seniority is clearly seen by the scars on his snout). Congratulations friend George!!

Hello George,
Awesome shot of the "King Of Beast"!! I love the way the beautiful lion is separated from his surroundings by use of light and shadow. Reminds me of a fine painting while showing outstanding detail and captivating facial expression.
Hope all is well for you in Africa weather wise, it has been a long hard Winter for us here in Ohio.

Bonsoir George,
Superbe portrait réaliste et très expressif .
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.

Hello, this is the type of image that hangs in galleries. Perfect in all respects. Gorgeous warm colors and nice tight close up of hi face. But what really stands out is his look and his eyes as if we are seeing what his inner soul is revealing to us. Proud and beautiful.
Magnificent and one of the best images on this sight.

ooooops! only you could make such a beautiful portrait out of Nature's interesting facets! are you real??
very good work, George. like you say, bravo!
nice mood (like he cares a fig!), loved those grasses.. and look at those confident/ careless/ cold eyes! though it's a still.. i can sense his roaring.. a thunder, must be..
