I have captured this Hottentot Teal (Anas hottentota) couple at Rondebult Bird Sanctuary. I took this picture from a hide so couldn't get eye level perfect POV which I prefer. Light was harsh. Great good blue sky which has reflected in the water. Very difficult to capture its eye, you can see. It's totally covered by dark black-brownish feathers. I've tried my best.

The Hottentot Teal is a species of dabbling duck. It's a migratory resident in eastern and southern Africa from Sudan and Ethiopia west to Niger and Nigeria and south to South Africa and Namibia.

Hi Srikumar
I was looking for these birds in East Africa. Unfortunately, I could not see them. Supposed to be the smallest ducks. Nice Photo. The eyes are clear in spite of the difficult conditions. Thanks a lot for sharing.

perfect capture, tfs Ori

Hello Srikumar,
I have seen blue winged, green winged, and cinnamon teal, but never this species. What a gorgeous bird with fantastic colors and very nice markings. You did a great job capturing the eyes. Exposure looks great and you have obtained excellent detail. I love their blueish tinted bills.

Hello Srikumar,
Beautiful natural view on these ducks with eye contact from both of them. Excellent sharpness and a nice choice of composition.

Hello Sri – Nice picture of those two small Anas hottentota. Excellent, view showing us many the details of feathers, wings and head of the birds. I like the reflection of the sky in the water

Technical achievement

• Excellent focus on the two birds showing many details;
• Perfect exposure with an appropriate choice of aperture/speed and iso
• Perfect depth of field and sharpness
• Good contrast
• Excellent sharpness showing the details of the wings, the feathers and the head; as you say, difficult to get a perfect rendition of the black eyes inside the black feathers from the head;
• Precise white balance and exact colour rendering for the birds and the water
• Good post processing without any excess
• Good background.

• Interesting picture showing those two birds from Africa; good capture.
• Efficient framing and composition with an appropriate disposition of the subject inside a semi panoramic view; well done.

Thank you for the sharing.

Have a good day.
