Goliath Heron ( Reuse Reier ) Ardea goliath

This heron is quiet rare and is the biggest of the herons.
They hunt in slightly deeper water than other herons.
They move around very slowly and sometimes stand deadstill for a long time.

This speciman was standing deadstill when we entered the bay. I was lucky to get in a few quick shots before he took off into the distance with their characteristic slow moving wing flight action. I was very happy with the result of this capture as this is my first mug shot of a bird.

Gran captura Willie... tan grande como el pico de esta ave.

I have seen one before but only from a distance. This close up shows him well. Nice eye detail and colours. Well done Willie.
