Sorry, if I stay with the pirates, as this is what herons are, thieving & conniving birds that will even eat each other’s chicks; & they are just as wily as the freebooters from long ago. Here, Captain Hook is walking the “plank”, his “hook” clearly seen. I love to go flying away on an imaginary trip to Wonderland, or Never Never Land. We share so many tales in different cultures about animals and their interaction with us. It helps us to laugh a bit, even at ourselves. The way Hook is strolling down this branch, determined, intent on what he may spear ahead, the mean gleam in his eye, all these set my imagination running.
I need to point out that the BG is not sky, but water, hence the “strange” blue colour. For species info, see HERE

Great close up image, with the zoom and nature you are very skilled. The exposure is good, but there is a bit of haze on the bird, probably because of the distance away it was and the 2X teleconverter. I've done a workshop to see if this could be brought out a bit more

Great Callie
I like the pose and composition.
Very good sharpness, details and colours.
Very well done.

Hy lyk of hy uit die screen "pop".. :) Very nice, sharp, good colours.. well done :)

Nice one to follow the serie. One artistic, another descriptive and clear. It looks very clever, the pose of naughty boy is very nice. TFS.

Weer eens 'n Callie foto. Ek herken hulle al.
Excellent quality and good pose, how did you convince him.

Great shot Callie
Very good sharpness and colours.
I think that the light is just perfect for this bird.

Excellent, well done

That's what I like about Herons, they are nasty and have attitude. No mercy, see it, eat it. Rrrrrrrrrr eeeeee rrrrrr mateeeees.
Well done on this capture Sir Callie.

Excellent capture and very good pose on this one too. Fantastic sharpness and details. He really looks like he is waiting for a chance to steal somone elses food.

Your captain Hook is truly beautiful, I don't understand why you're putting him down like that - after all he's just a man looking for his supper. What you call meanness, I call determination ;-))
Beautiful colours (the flash really brightened things up), good POV, clean bg, it's all there ;-))

Great continuing theme Callie with another superb capture! Everything looks fine from this end...Well done!

Very good picture Callie. I like the superb light on it. This one looks like our green heron. Same silhouette, same attitude. Great note too.

A nice capture of this Heron. The light and detail on the bird are excellent. I am amazed that the water in the backround looks like that using such a fast shutter speed.

De houding van de vogel spreekt mij zo aan Callie, de alertheid met zijn ogen, ook de kleuren en zijn achterste poot die juist van de grond komt, schitterend opnieuw Callie.
Groeten uit België,

Why is he so humpbacked? :-)

Great photo and very interesting note!

And now this one looks like our Green Heron by its pose.
I like these composition with uniform BG. No distractions, more impact too.
Thanks Callie.

What a moment - He really looks like a pirate or a modern day highjacker!

The sharpness is good and the pose, combined with the composition makes for a winner.

Very well done and thanks for posting.
