great sharp pic, TFS Ori
Thanks for this great dedication, I really appreciate it.
Your words and poem are very nice and I will always keep it in my mind.
I hope to be with you as soon as possible.
The picture is also great; the colours are vivid and beautiful.
Exposure and details is spot on and the composition is very good.
The bird is well seen against the sky.
I wonder how it can sit on the branch with all these sharp spines.:-)
Beautiful work, my friend.

Another breathtaking photo from your hand and lens.
An absolute perfect dedication. I do not know Gert but I am sure he will feel much honored about this gesture.
Everything on this photo is outstanding.
The blue, blue sky.
The patterns in the feathers.
The sharpness of the claws.
Your notes are interesting as usual, and if you have written the poem yourself, you have excelled yourself in that field to.
Gert, although I do not know you, I wish you all the best for the upcoming surgery. Remember what Loot said in his notes, that many Trek Nature members will be thinking of you, and will be waiting for your return.

BRAVO for your nice poetical note and outstanding bird picture.
Subject of your picture is really prefect. The branch with prickles is suitable to this bird perfectly as well as the rich blur sky to colours of the bird. The reproduction of the bird is outstanding: plumage, its colous, sharpness and details. The shot is composed perfectly too.
I am very interested in what shooting distance is.
My congratulations and TFS.

Very nice capture of this cool hornbill Loot, the blue sky background really helps punch this character right out of the picture with amazing colors & clarity. Very thoughtful of you to think of others. :)

First great note, fantastic poem, I too wish to send best wishes for a speedy recovery to Gert. Now the capture, clear crisp details, great composition and background, he must be careful of his perch though. He looks like I feel some mornings, LOL.

Wonderful capture of this Hornbill, razor sharp showing details of plumage and beautiful colours. I love the low POV and the composition too.
So, we also have a poet among us! Excellent!
All the best, Gert!

Well spoken....poor Gert I hope he recovers quickly and perfectly :)
The Hornbill is a primative look species of bird. He looks like he just came out of the Jurassic period. I love the detail, especially his feathers with such an interesting pattern. His bill is something to be taken seriously with it's massive size.
Framing, composition and notes are excellent and a bit funny too :)

Great to see the whole version of this hornbill and he seems to have changed the expression on his face in Gert's favour.
The photograph is of course of very high quality and leaves nothing negative to say about it.
The poem is also to be praised, as is Gert one of TN's standard bearers.
TFS this fine contribution.
Best wishes, Ivan

I think that old age is getting to us.
I just got over a car accident last year and I end up having problems with one of my hips that got me out of circulation for almost a month and at the time that I got back, I find out that Gert Ellstrom is having problems again with his joins and having an operation on his wrist. I hope that is just getting out of the small stuff at the beginning and not that the all year is going to go like that. Let hope that Gert gets well and his wrist get better 100%. I will be wishing and praying for that.
Another great shot my friend with everything right and in place.
Great colors, details, composition and I love the angle of the bird and the coloration of the background.
The best to You and Your Family for this coming year my friend and plenty of heath and good thing.

The full version of this Hornbill is equally delightful. Poised on a flimsy looking branch, it stands out majestically against the deep blue sky.
[A cloudless blue sky is the best BG ever; nobody can peck on it for defects :-)!]
Your message to Gert on behalf of all of us is a wonderful gesture on your part. Thanks. The poem is very amusing and will surely cheer Gert up during his ordeal.

Firstly all the best to Gert, may he have a speedy recovery,
so he can - as this bird would say "Wurk, wurk, wurk, wurk, ...".
Loot you have taken a very advantagous PoV here... Meaning you stayed away from the other business end of this horny bird.
Great sharpness and detail and nicely offset against that immaculate background. And what a fine touch to find a fitting perch to this prickly bird! Tfs. Jay

Ricardo
Another excellent image of this bird with the consequent complete view of same Loot.
I love the same as in the other one the well controlled intense illumination offering several details and textures with great colors, everything starting from the excellent focus and sharpness captured.
Suitable point of view and framing that harmonize even more the aesthetics of the presentation.
My best regards... Ricardo

Very impressive, Loot.
A wonderful composition showing the whole hornbill in an excellent POV.
The sharpness of your picture is only equalled by the sharpness of those formidable-looking thorns on the acacia (?) tree.
Again, perfect exposure of this interesting bird well shown against a perfect blue California sky. : )
Oops... Not California, you say?
TFS and hope you are keeping well, my friend.
Gert, we are all rooting for your speedy recovery.

This is a wonderful ppst and dedication to our dear friend Gert to whom i would also like to wish all the best and a "speedy recovery" (as you called it) :)
Another fantastic picture of this impressive hornbill!
I personally like this one a bit better that the previous. I really don't know why, but i think it's a bit more balanced :)
Anyway, the sharpness here is one of the key elements to me and is simple impeccable...falwless!
The details seem to habe sub-details and could go on and one to a huge magnification and still be razor-sharp.
I also love the splendid colors everywhere - on the feathers, on the big and impressive beak and, of course, on the spotless blue sky in the BG.
The composition is a splendor and the note great, too.
BRAVO, my friend, and TFS

This POV is very impressive! I like the way you composed this picture and those superb details you caught. This blue sky, colors of the bird, saturation and sharpness are excellent. What a great dedicace for Gert you are offering us here!!! Colors are wonderful and the details, awesome!!! Exposition, natural colors, pov, and bg (great nice blue sky) cannot be better!!! The only thing IMHO is that you cropped a little bit too much... I would have let more space between the frame and the tail...
Anyway, this picture is wonderful and TFS,

A wonderful dedication from a great photographer, that knows about surgery and recovery, to a great photograher. I hope that you and Gert will both recover to a full 100% health.
This is an awesome photo with such great details and such great clear colors. The details in its head are just amazing. The bright blue sky is beautiful as well. I think this is taken with pretty harsh daylight, so I am very impressed with the control on the exposure.

wow what a regal looking bird, or is it the perspective, with having to look up at this hornbill.
In any case this looks fabulous, the plumage is very detailed and whites are perfectly exposed.
Great sharpness, and not only the thorns ;-). Love the fact that there is no other distraction, seeing this bird against the blue sky is wonderful.
Great composition with fabulous colors.

Unfair, you take a common hornbill and you turn it into a super model. In the mean time I have hundreds of hornbill photos, none worth posting. I suppose the photographer has something to do with it.

as brilliant as the portrait, the whole figure looks majestical. The image is super sharp, colours are brilliant, and the very clean blue background does a perfect job to highlight the bizarre contours of the bird and the thorny branch. A great composition of just two precisely presented elements creates a high impact. Excellent work, my dear friend.
I would say "Great, grreat grrreat..." up into a crescendo, not fading away. :)
Thank you! Best regards,

When you are as far behind as I am and coming in last on this critique, over here we call it sucking hind tit. Not a very flattering analogy! So I apologise for being so tardy.
A perfect exposure! The color and detail in the whites of the plumage are simply perfect. The vibrant blue sky backround is amazing. Superb frame filling composition and placement within the photo. An amazing shot and dedication to a well deserving member.
Great photography is all about light and composition. The subject is somewhat important, but dramatic light and composition can make even plain objects into interesting photographs. You Sir, undertstand this and practice it to the fullest.
