A dark brown, long legged bird with a long crest and flattened bill. The hammer-shaped profile of the head renders this bird unmistakable. In flight its shape and barred tail lend a hawk-like appearance, but the long bill and legs rule out confusion with a bird of prey. Habitat : Freshwater dams, lakes and rivers. Common in suitable localities throughout the region. Absent fropm desert areas.

I've never seen this species before, even though I've been looking at TN for 3 years or so. Its always good to see something new.
