Hildebrandt's Starling captured in the shadow of the trees somewhere in Tanzania on the way to Serengeti, 20D @ 400mm, handheld.
This shot was really dark from the beginning and reason for that was that bird was in deep shadow and my flash was without battery :( This days technology like Photoshop can give you loot of help :) and this is result as you can see in my post.

I promise to show you whats the different between Hildebrandt's Starling and Superb Starling (one of my last post).

Bird is found between 1000-2000m, although may be seen as low as 600m, in open bush and wooded areas mostly in the south of the Kenya although they do get as far north as Maralal.

Hildebrandt's Starling is often found feeding in mixed flocks with the Superb Starling. While superficially similar to the Superb, the adults can be distinguished by eye colour (red in Hildebrandt's, creamy-white in the Superb) and breast band (the adult Superb has a white band across its chest).

Hildebrandt's Starling is a ground feeder taking beetles and grasshoppers but it will also eat seeds. It feeds in small family groups or pairs. It nests in tree cavities and has 2 breeding periods, March to May and October to December.

Hello Ralf,
Brilliant close-up! Very sharp focus and lovely contrasting black/blue orange colours (probably best without a flash!?) The bright red eye is fantastic. Really great against the light background.
TFS, Ulla

Hi Ralf,

The colours are lovely.

Hej Ralf,
Another excellent African starling shot of a species once again new to me.
Though you migh have lost a little reflected colour this shot does not appear to have suffered from the lack of flash and your PP work is excellent.
Great sharpness, comp and BG
Mycket fint!
