[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The sprint was short and obviously the fawn had no chance to escape.

The picture shows the typical way Cheetahs are hunting, unlike other cats they have no retractile claws but they need them for the sprint, just as sportsmen use spikes on their sprint shoes. The prey is not held with the claws but just put down with a side kick. After that the Cheetah kills its prey by biting the throat and suffocating their prey, as do all big cats. Smaller cats are killing their small prey by biting the head or the spine.

Dogs (African Wild Dog, Wolves, Jackals etc) do not kill their prey, they just start eating.

Probably that was just for a little snack. Cheetah doesn't look like nervous!

Hi Tom,
Superb series with wonderful work on your part, obtaining splendid shots all through out. I was pull for the underdog, but the hunters need to eat. Great work Tom.

Absolutely spectacular moment Tom ..and I think that you deserve a special award for that capture ...it is really that good! Bravo! How pity that the Cheetah's rear was out of the frame ...but still a classic!

George Veltchev

Great action shot! Pity you couldnt get the legs and tail of the cheetah into the picture.
I have to disagree about your one statement, I have seen both wild dog and jackal attack and kill their prey.

Hello Tom,
A fantastic moment captured with excellent timing! A beautiful nature picture,
Thanks for sharing and have a nice afternoon,
