I noticed my cat acting really strangly, hissing and walking in circles. I knew he wasnt playing so I walked over to him, and there sure enough was a black snake! It moved so quickly and has orange markings on the side of his head which look like the cheep flames boy racers stick on the side of their cars! Anyway if anyone has any ideas as to what it is, could you please tell me. |

Hi Ben, I'm afraid I don't know what it is but you've done a pretty good job of capturing it for ID'g. I love the framing and pose and sharpness. The head is OOF which is a shame but otherwise it is nicely done. I wish I could be of more help but welcome to TN and thanks for sharing it with us :) It does look as though it is about to strike so I hope it wasn't venomous!

A late comment/critique since I just found your photo -
This snake appears to one of the Herald Snakes or Red-lipped Snakes (genus Crotaphopeltis). I am not sure of the species, but the EMBL database only shows Crotaphopeltis hippocrepis occuring in Togo. It is more of a southern/central African genus.
Quite a pretty little snake, in my opinion. I've never seen another photo of this species, if that is what it is.
I like the side-on action pose as well. Pity the head is blurred.
