[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
First thing I did was to look up some of my old friends and I must say there are very little of them left. I did find some and am very grateful for that.

Anyways... As I am preparing, packing, cleaning lenses for my 1st big trip into the heart of Botswana I though it might be a good idea to leave a photo here just to remind you lot that I haven't forgot you.

The Cape turtle-dove is extremely common, and is found everywhere in southern Africa except coastal Namibia. It lives in most types of woodland, as well as farmland, suburban parks and gardens. It mainly eats seeds, as well as fruit, nectar, leaves and insects. It usually makes its own nest, out of twigs, leaves and roots, but can also use nest from previous seasons and nests made by other birds. It lays 1-4 eggs, usually 2, which are incubated by both sexes, for 13-16 days. The nestlings stay in the nest for 16-17 days, after which they are dependent on their parents for 12 more days, before becoming fully independent.

Yes, I'm still here - now and then!!
What a beauty this image is. I love how the light on the water is reflecting on the doves. They look so soft and tender. And with their colours I imagine they must be hard to find.
Enjoy your time in Botswana and do come back and show us some of your photos

Good to see you again, my old friend! Great news about Botswana - I hope you'll take many interesting shots of African creatures, please, do some macros too!
Todays picture is excellent - I like its magical colours and light. Dried rocks, sky reflected in water and very synchronised doves - all look superb.

A beautifully executed elegant composition Gerhard, it is really very nice to observe the four drinking doves in tandem and their accompanying reflections, all in fine exposure and perfect focus. Thanks indeed for sharing this nice image with us.

A very cool shot, very symmetrical. I like how the water is putting a glare on each of the doves. The dove standing up there in the back is a little distracting, my eye keeps wandering back to look at it. Not that it was in your power to fix it lol, but if you use photoshop - there doesn't seem to be enough room to crop it out but what you could do is clone it out and then crop the image, that's just my opinion. But other than that this is a superb image. Maybe I'll create a workshop to show you what I mean,

The light and tones are just Xwizit in this wonderful capture.
The one at the back has apparently just arrived or is further down the pecking/drinking order.

The light in this shot is wonderful, Gerhard.
The bands of light on the doves and the shades of yellow on the rocks...
as well as the blurry reflections... all contribute to an out-worldly feel.
I like the composition of the four drinking doves, and the fifth one standing guard.
A very interesting image that makes you look and look again.

I am not sure, where I find Kgalagadi on the map; Google Earth is not helpful in this case. Was this an oasis as one finds in North Africa?

These Cape Turtle Doves look very attractive birds.
