The Great White Pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) also known as the Eastern White Pelican, Rosy Pelican or White Pelican is a bird in the pelican family. It breeds from southeastern Europe through Asia and in Africa in swamps and shallow lakes.

GRANDE PELLICANO BIANCO

l pellicano comune o pellicano bianco (Pelecanus onocrotalus, Linnaeus 1758) un grande uccello pescatore della famiglia Pelecanidae.
Dalla colorazione quasi esclusivamente bianca, ben adattato alla vita acquatica. Una volta in aria i pellicani, grazie alle lunghe ali, sono forti volatori e si spostano spesso in spettacolari formazioni a V.
A volte gruppi di pellicani comuni di 6-8 individui si dispongono in acqua in una formazione a ferro di cavallo, immergono i grandi becchi e, battendo le grandi ali, catturano i pesci in fuga.
In genere nidificano vicini tra loro, in colonie numerose. La femmina depone 2-4 uova in un nido fatto di rametti, su un albero o nell'erba. I piccoli sono allevati da entrambi i genitori.

Il pellicano comune vive in laghi interni e paludi dell'Europa sudorientale, Asia e Africa. Tuttavia Plinio il Giovane (61 113) parla di Pellicani visti anche nella Gallia settentrionale che si affaccia sul Mare del Nord.
Procurato esclusivamente in acqua, il cibo consiste in pesci e crostacei. Spesso il pellicano trattiene pi prede nel becco a sacco.
Prima di ingerire il nutrimento, il pellicano elimina l'acqua che penetrata nella sacca insieme al cibo, facendola uscire dalla fessura del becco.

Hello Luciano,
A nice clos-up view of this beautiful Great White Pelican. Judging from it's pinkish face I would have to guess that this is a male. You certainly have no trouble seeing it's bright yellow pouch do you, I also like it's bluish colored bill.
We have no pelicans here in Ohio, as we are way to far from the ocean to see any of these types of unique birds. I have only viewed them a few times while on vacation near the sea shores.
