[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It was the first time I saw a hyena in my life and I never thought they were so big.

Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Suborder:Feliformia
Family: Hyaenidae
Genus: Crocuta
Species:Crocuta crocuta

The spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta), also known as the laughing hyena,is a hyena species, currently classed as the sole extant member of the genus Crocuta, native to Sub-Saharan Africa. It is listed as being of least concern by the IUCN on account of its widespread range and large numbers estimated between 27,000 and 47,000 individuals. The species is, however, experiencing declines outside of protected areas due to habitat loss and poaching. The species may have originated in Asia, and once ranged throughout Europe for at least one million years until the end of the Late Pleistocene. Other info on Wikipedia.

Ciao Luciano,

Un buon anno 2020.Un bel ritratto di questa iena che non ride tanto dopo che qualcuno con un morso gli ha staccato un pezzo di orecchia.

Buon week end

Francesco

Good to see hyena, here we named this خَرکفتر as this name has two portion so the first is DONKEY and the second is Pigeon, I thought much about this mixture, may they had no such vocabulary to find a better name.
Nice catch nice depth from tip to toe, TFS.

Ciao Luciano, gran bella anche la iena, nitidezza e dettagli al top, bei colori naturali, bravo, ciao Silvio

Hi Luciano,
Wonderful portrait of the big "doggy". Good composition, it doesn't seem incomplete to the viewer at all, even though the legs aren't in the frame. Congratulation for the great photo. And I also understand your surprise about the size: I felt exactly the same when I found this species - much larger than I ever expected.
Tfs, kind regards, László
