[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Rimstone forms by differential precipitation of calcium carbonate with a higher rate at the rock-water-air interface. The rimstone ponds are still actively forming over a distance of 3.6km along the river which leaches the calcium carbonate from limestone upstream. A Unesco-proclaimed World Heritage Site.

Note: Pumakkale in Turkey is one of the few other places on Earth where rimstone ponds occur on surface rather than in caves. The rims are much higher there and very white, so not as colourful but very spectacular.

Hello Neels,
These Rimstones are truely impressive. Lovely view on the natural bassins filled with beautiful azure water. May be you could have composed the picture in showing a little less of the front part of the Rimstones.
Thanks for this interesting posting.
Kind regards
Anne
