Good detail of the subject shown. I like the dark background, DOF, POV, lighting and composition.

We know you as a landscape artist, Niek, so this is a pleasant surprise for us to enjoy a bird picture from you taken during your trip to Hongkong.
I have seen this type of Starling for the first time, so I am thrilled about it because your image is excellent and shows all the features and colours of this bird very well.
Thanks and enjoy your new job and the travelling that goes with it.

A surprise to see a post from China coming from you! This is a great capture of the Bali Starling in a lovely pose between the apples and I like the sharp focus on the eye. Very well composed and the colours are beautiful too. Hope you get more chances to use your camera on your trips!
TFS and have a nice weekend, Ulla

Hi Niek and nice to see you again old friend :)
So...your business took you to Hong Kong!! Wow! I would love such a job that would make me travel all over the world :)
It's a bit shame though that you didn't have more time to explore the areas and to have proper photo trips. I'm sure you would have loved that and also sure that i would have loved to see some great landscape shots from you from there.
But still, you came back with something. Definitely a bit out of my comfort zone (not in a bad way)... agree with you here, but still you made the most of the situation and you kit. Even if you didn't zoom all the way, you still had f/5.6 which is a bit slow if the light isn't strong, yet the sharpness of this shot is great. It does look like a beautiful species...and one enjoying apples :))
The contrast with the BG work well here, i think, and emphasizes the immaculate plumage of this bird - except for the tip of the tail.
Overall, i'd say you did a nice job.
Cheers and have a lovely Sunday

What a cute bird and nice shot at whole. Exposure of the bird image is exceptional. I also am impressed with combination of lights and darks. BG underlines the subject extremely perfect. Details of the shot are also spot on. My kind regards and compliments.

I did not know that you had made a trip to HK, my birthplace.
I have tried to take pictures of that same Bali Starling at HK Park, with no success.
You did a great job with the exposure, the sharpness, and the composition.
The Bali Mynah is a critically endangered bird, so thank you for giving us such a good look at it.
It is very beautiful. TFS. : )
P.S. If you go to my China Travelogue, you may see some other birds that you will recognize. : )
