i found this bird at Suntaleykhola (in Darjeeling district), near the 'nature camp' where we had stayed... it was such a beauty!... my prime intention for the trip was bird-watching, and this bird had added satisfaction to my list...
it was in the early morning that i used to go out of my cottage for birds... the whole night i used to listen to the sounds from the jungle and wait for the morning so that i could be one of them... this tiny bird could be missed very easily in the forest, but not its sweet sharp call... it was hopping on the stones around the 'khola' (which means, narrow flow of water, a river actually in this case)... what i noticed that there was a similarity between this bird and oriental magpie robin... each time it made a call, it held its tail upright... when i saw this bird i had no idea of what bird it actually was, only this similarity had struck my mind... and i just had no intention to disturb or loose it. so i hided behind a big tree and kept watching for as long as i could. and i loved that experience. :)

Welcome to TN, Ruby!
This is a wonderful capture of this lovely three-coloured bird.
Very good focus, colours and DOF.
The lichen covered rock goes well in this composition.
Thanks and all the best.

Hello Ruby,

Hello Ruby,
A very interesting bird. He has incredible plumage, such highly colored!

amazing colourful species, TFS Ori

Bonjour Ruby,
Agréable valorisation du sujet dans son environnement mais le cadrage me parait un peu trop large pour apprécier pleinement la finesse des détails.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.

Hi Ruby,

great capture, this White capped water redstart. I once saw one on the Panj river in Tajikistan and wished I had the chance to take a picture of the splendid creature. Since it is small you had to be really patient and experienced to do this excellent shot. Congratulations.

Best regards,

Wow!! Ruby, What a gorgeous bird indeed!! It's interesting how the body shapes and features of the Redstarts are almost identical, even though they live thousands of miles apart.
The white cap really stands out on this particular species. I would imagine it really aids in helping you to spot them in the field. Great capture!! TFS.

Beauty of a shot Ruby. The colours are strong and true. Your SX40 seems to pick up the detail in the black feathers well. We have an American Redstart that is all black with a touch of red streak through the wings. (no white on the head though) You're lucky this bird even came out of the trees. They usually like the cover of leaves. Anyway it's nice to see such a clear shot of one in all it's glory. Well done! TFS Trevor
