[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Our active TN member Joydeb Chaudhury was inviting me to visit his place for Bird photography. Joydeb is an art teacher of a School run by the Central Government (India). And he is also a very enthusiastic nature photographer. Getting his worm invitation, one winter morning I went his place, Labpur and it is only 27 km from Santiniketan. We spent a full day for watching and photographing various birds and insects. The place is like a bird sanctuary. We spotted, watched and photographed many birds there. Today's picture is a Black-hooded Oriole has taken on that day.

I want to dedicate this picture to my young friend Joydeb Chaudhury.

Orioles are strikingly yellow birds with Black-hooded Orioles having a black hood which separates them from the rest of the orioles. The Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus) is a widespread resident in India and its striking yellow plumage with a black hood stands out amongst the vegetation. Open broad-leafed forests are their primary habitat, however it is not uncommon to sight them in well-wooded areas like village groves and plantations, the first attention they gain from us is mainly due to their high-pitched calls that sound like ko-KI-ko liquid whistles. The immature have yellow forehead, streaked throat and not so solid black hoods.

Hello Samiran,
A nice capture of this Oriole, a slightly different POV from that of Joy.
I like the lighting and colours contrasting with the BG in this pleasing composition and the sharpness and DOF are great.
Thanks and best wishes for 2013!
Ivan

hello Samiran
very nice composition with good details and beautiful colours
thanks greeting lou

Hi Samiran
Yes we are neighbours today. It twas good that you and Joydeb got together, it sounds like it was a good time.
You have captured a very beautiful, Oriole with it's red beak and eyes. The image is very sharp and I like your composition and
POV. It is to bad that the background is so dark. It takes away from the dark detail in the bird. Samiran would a fill flash have
helped separate the bird's detail from the background?
Thanks for sharing
Best regards
Colin

Hola Samiran, una hermosa foto de una mejor especie, me gusta la pose inusual ya que se ven detalles del ave que no siempre nos muestran, me gusta color, entorno y la percha, aunque la luz es un poco baja...saludos.

Hi,
Fine composition for this beautiful bird, no doubt then the dark background is not suitable for this black bird, that's unfortunate and the catch light in the eye would have saved this one..don't worry this happens in the wild, better luck next time. tfs.

Hello Samiran
very beautiful bird indeed. The position and the slanting branch really give a good visual effect. The bird is very pleasant in colors.
Excellent job...the cry is also wonderful.
