Hello Joydeb,

Hope you are well. This Blue Pimpernel is a common spring flower of our region. Its scientific name is Anagallis arvensis and some of its other common names are Scarlet Pimpernel, Blue Pimpernel, Red Pimpernel, Red Chickweed, Shepherds Clock, Shepherd’s Weather-glass, Poor Man’s Weather-glass, Poorman’s Barometer.

Our friend Laszlo had this to add when he commented on my photo of the same flower: "a very interesting photo, and what isn't written in the note, colors of flower depends on pH of the soil. On acid soil the flower's orange, on calcareous it's blue. Strange indeed."
Thanks a lot for sharing an excellent shot of this very common but extremely beautiful tiny little flower of our region, Joydeb, take care,

warm regards/Abid

Hello Joy,
What a beautiful blue flowering plant you have posted today. Hats off to Abid for helping you identify it for you. I love blue flowers such as this since they are not all that common and blue is probably my favorite color of blooms. The clarity is excellent and exposure is just right. It is quite interesting how the soil pH determines the color of the flowers.
