MAGNIFICENT EMPEROR or Blue Darner
Anax immaculifrons (Rambur, 1842)

Family: Aeschnidae
Genus: Anax
Species: Anax immaculifrons

Flight Season: Not known
Habits and Habitats: Found near slow streams

Description:
•Face: Pale green face; sapphire-blue eyes
•Wings: Transparent wings with tinted amber yellow; reddish brown wing spot
•Thorax: Dorsally blue-green in colour; laterally turqoise blue in males and greenish yellow in females; two black stripes on lateral thorax.
•Abdomen: Abdominal segments are broadly turqoise blue with black apical halves. Black replaced with dark red-brown in females.
•The male is large in size with green and black stripes to the thorax and an amazing orange abdomen. Its anal appendages are also large.

Breeding Areas: Slow moving hill streams. Females lay eggs on aquatic plants submerged under water.

Conservation Status: Common

Found in Asia: China, Guandong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Hainan, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, Viet Nam

I can understand why this dragonfly is being called Magnificent Emperor, because it is truly a magnificent insect with its striking colours and details on its wings. Hi Ram.
I have only few pictures of the species (or similar one). I saw them in-flight as usual and could not catch them naturally. You have pictured it at impressive upper POV and managed to show all its features very well. It is interesting what the brown object under the dragonfly is. My compliments and warm regards.

Bonjour Ram,
A most beautiful creature which I remember having seen from you in a precedent superb picture. An amazingly striking creature, which I really would like to see too. A species rarely shown, probably not so easy to catch even if it seems to be common in Asia. What superb sapphire-eyes!

Very useful note and a good diagonal composition, the wings are perfectly parallel to the plane of the sensor and the details on the insect is very good
