[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In February 2009, I stayed at my native place in the western Himalayas for about a month. It was winter time and the weather was a fine mix of snow, rain and sunshine. In the recent years, the weather conditions have changed drastically in the region. Though it does snow there in winters, the snowfall now tends to stay higher and higher.
In this picture, of which I will try to post an LP, I have captured the wide panorama of the place I was born in 65 years ago. My village is right there on the spur of the slope just below the forest. In my childhood, we used to get frequent and heavy snowfalls here. Half a century later, the place is without snow in winters despite its altitude of nearly 8000 ft.
I have posted the pictures of this region from time to time here on TN. The mountain range at the far horizon is called the Pir Panjal. It originates in southern Kashmir and extends east until it merges with the Dhauladhar Range that makes a fine backdrop to Dharamsala where the Dalai Lama has his Tibetan capital in exile.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Ram,
What a beautiful place, your homeland. And how different from the place I live; below sea level, totally flat with a lot of water around.
Excellent note, a good example of worrying about the warming up of the climate.
A very beautiful photo with a fantastic landscape taken from a perfect POV.

Hi Ram,you was born in a beautiful and peacefull place as i can see! A magnificent view and a very interesting note about the weather, but i think the snow will be back soon in the next winter.Perfect quality of sharpness and colors as usual. Thanks for share, have a nice Sunday,Luciano

Hi Ram,

you let me discover your birthplace, a real privilege. And what a birthplace it is, high up on the slope and difficult farming conditions. So you are originating from mountain people! I discovered during my travels that mountain people all over the world have certain things in common, a sense of independence, a sense for hard work, a respect of nature, tightly knit communities. It's quite natural for you that you are posting regularly on TN ! :-) Thanks for all.

My best regards,

Hallo Ram,
oh, my neighbour, what a fantastic image of your native place, excellent from all aspect
Best regards

Hello Ram,
this is a very nice capture of your homeland with a well composed diagonal created by the hillside and the snowy mountains in the background. I also like the natural colours and some fine deatils in the large post. Well done, my compliments.
Best wishes,

A beautiful landscape to know and have lived in. Thanks for sharing. regards yiannis

Hi Ram,
your homeland is really beautiful. What majestic mountains - kings of mountains!
Excellent point of view. Nice natural colours.
Have a nice Sunday,

Ciao Ram. Magnificent panoramic mountainscape from India! Best compliment for your wonderful homeland!

Bonjour Ram,
Très beau paysage bien composé avec ses différents plans nettement identifiables dans lesquels le regard peut se promener agréablement, dans une lumière cristaline, afin d'en découvrir tous les détails.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.

Hello Ram,

Hope you are well. What a splendid shot! Quite wide angled, covers the lower hills and the majestic, snow-clad mountains in the background. Lovely place! And indeed an amazing birthplace! How you afford to keep away from it?It is tragic the snow does not fall here any longer and how change pulls a place apart. Loved your succinct and well-written note. You have excellent command over your English prose and let me admit, it was because of your notes that I have approved mine and I also admit, I try to write in your vein. You are among the few on this site who write amazing notes to their photos. Yes, I am sorry for using your user name while dedicating my photo to you so that your friends should know it is you, the one and only Ram Thakur(ramthakur)....smile. Thanks a lot for sharing this marvellous photo.....take care....warmest regards/Abid

Hi Ram,
I am always glad to see a landscape photo from your home turf. It is so spectular and has so much beauty. Your view down the valley onto the high mountain peaks is awesome. The diagonal line of the first mountain adds a nice effect to the overall composition. The house adds good scale and show how huge these mountains are.

hello Ram
great place
the colours and details are very good
great sharpness and nice composition
greeting lou

Hi Ram,

How beautiful are these rolling hills and snow topped mountains! You captured this scene perfectly and from a wonderful perspective! I can almost feel the cool crisp air - something I haven't felt in real life for months. Either it's that I'm getting older, the Arizona weather is changing, or it's a combination of the two. Our summers are hotter, more humid and our winters are much colder.

Ram, this is such a beautiful place. Just an outstanding shot. The sharpness and the detail is just great. Thanks so much for commenting on my 'Golden Fog' photo.Have a great week, Bill

Hello Ram,
Your birth place is spectacular as is your capture of it, what memories you must have of this special place. I wonder how many man years of labour it took to terrace the hillside so crops could be grown. Thank you for sharing this with us Ram.

Hi Ram. I must still return this to your homeland.
It is simply breathtaking view of the many small houses surrounded by terraced fields. And on background wonderful majestic mountains with white peaks. I envy you this look that you had every day of your stay there. A larger version shows all the best qualities of this picture. Composition, exposure and colors that is all just fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
Best regards

This is beautiful.

This is beautiful...
