|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|The mountains in Kinnaur are steep, dangerous, and now closed once again. Landslides created a dam in Tibet on the Sutji river, two years ago. It washed the roads and bridges, trapping hundreds of tourists, in late June. The landslides of 2000 were almost cleared and all the bridges rebuilt, when a new flood reversed all the effort. The region borders the high flat land of the Tibetian plateau, and receives little actual rain fall. Snow this winter was 20-100 feet deep, the worst in 60 years. Because of global warming, the glaciers are melting faster than ever, thus creating enormous vilumes of water. (the blur on the photo is caused by helicopter blades).|
