Shot during thick of the monsoon at Lonavala, Western Ghats (100 miles away from Mumbai); the photograph shows the close approximation of clouds with the mountains creating a dense layer of fog, water falls & saturated greenery of the forest all around.

This green landscape is dedicated to Jane Magen (jaycee) from USA. Hope you too enjoy this.........

*********************************************************************************

The Western Ghats mediates the rainfall regime of peninsular India by intercepting the southwestern monsoon winds. The western slopes of the mountains experience heavy annual rainfall (with 80 percent of it falling during the southwest monsoon from June to September), while the eastern slopes are drier; rainfall also decreases from south to north. Dozens of rivers originate in these mountains, including the peninsula’s three major eastward-flowing rivers. Thus, they are important sources of drinking water, irrigation, and power. The wide variation of rainfall patterns in the Western Ghats, coupled with the region’s complex geography, produces a great variety of vegetation types. These include scrub forests in the low-lying rainshadow areas and the plains, deciduous and tropical rainforests up to about 1,500 meters, and a unique mosaic of montane forests and rolling grasslands above 1,500 meters.

Hi Subhash,

How nice of you to dedicate this very fitting picture to me. That sky looks very familiar since we are in the midst of our monsoon season too. The big difference is the wonderful green grass and trees. A fine atmospheric landscape and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Jane

HI, well framed snap, I feel some less sharpness, still it gives the feel of rainy atmosphere perfectly. TFS. Regards,

Hello Subhash !
I like to see pictures with fog, it is always creating such a wonderful mood - peaceful, mysterious and vivifying... Here I like the composition, with the meadows and lonely tree in FG, then the forest, and then the hills covered in fog. I also like the dull colors, so typical of bad(weather day, they are perfect for this foggy atmosphere. Very nicely composed, great POV. Very well done !
Valérie.
