[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The South Indian Blue Oakleaf (Kallima horsfieldii) is a nymphalid butterfly found in Southern India. The underside appears like a leaf complete with midrib while the upperside is brilliantly coloured.

This is a very difficult butterfly to spot since it resembles so closely a dry leaf in wings closed position and is always found in undergrowth of forests. It typically attaches itself to branches as if like a dead leaf or lies near leaf litter.

This is the dry season form.

This is quite a big butterfly and can be spotted in flight as we managed to do this one time. This one landed upside down on a thick branch and with no access to go near had to be taken from about 2 meters.

I must say what amazing camouflaged features this butterfly possesses. If you didn't looks twice you would definitely assume it was just another leaf. Very interesting and educational photo!!

Fine capture of this Kallima species in camouflage pose. Despite the shade the details of this leaf look-alike are well seen with fine sharpness and natural colours in a pleasing composition.
