Oleander Hawk Moth (Daphnis Nerii)

This is one beautiful moth which invariably can be found in the cities in our part of the world at this time of the year. Well this time was lucky enough to catch it on a plant rather than on a wall or steps.

The reason they can be found in the cities is maybe because their preferred food plants such as Petunia , Jasmine , Honeysuckle are all found in cities. The caterpillars feed on (Nerium oleander) hence its name , which is also part of Indian Urban flora.

So this can be considered as an Urban Moth.

Photo taken handheld in cloudy conditions. Bit surprised maybe even lucky that even at f/4 the depth of focus appears reasonably all right.

Absolutely Gorgeous!!! Love the colors and clarity!

Hello Himanshu,
Beautiful Moth.Well captured against such leaves.Good details and prominent(to me)colour.Like it.
Thanks for sharing,
Regards and have a nice time,

Dear Himanshuo
A splendid camouflage for a beautiful moth. The intricate pattern emphasizes the camouflage thus hiding the animal in the thumb nail image.

The play of light and shadow are interesting and the different shades of purples and greens are luminous and very attractive.

I read with interest your notes and add your work to my theme "Camouflage".

Thank you for sharing
Kind Regards from the Tzaneen Dam in Limpopo, South Africa

What a lovely moth and you have captured it very well. The green, velvety look is amazing and i can feel it :). Great job done!
Thanks for sharing,
Have a nice day, AKBAR

Your very fresh picture of a spectacular Moth is wonderful, Himanshu.
The entire body coloration of this species is a strong representation of the kind of camouflage that armies are using in the contemporary world in the form of their field uniforms.
Though the decorative plant it is perched on is totally different in colour and does not go with the camouflage concept, it does contribute to the appeal of the composition as a whole.
Your aperture setting for this shot could be one of the reasons for some signs of OE on the lighter parts of the wings.
All in all, a very likeable presentation.

Hello Himanshu,
Nice catch with fine details and beautiful colours.
