A species of Cricket (superfamily Grylloidea - thanks Ivan for helping with the identification) from the wet forests of the Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in South India. This individual was found under the bark of a decaying log. Movement was in long flying leaps - almost a cross between a grasshopper (the hind limbs resemble) and a flying beetle. The habitat was wet evergreen, at about 1000msl.

Hello Ravi,
Though I can't tell you what species, this is some species of Cricket, active mostly at night. You can tell crickets from grasshoppers by their long antennae.
Good sharp macro with fine POV and lighting.
TFS and best regards, Ivan

Hi Ravi.
Excellent detail and colour, the flash is not harsh, made a nice lighting. Looking at those back legs I would say a grasshopper, sorry can't help with ID.

Hello Ravi!
I am an entomologist so I like a lot to watch a good quality insect pictures. And this one is really splendid! Great details, very interesting (and funny) POV, nice, natural colours.
I believe that this was a very small specimen (I can see that this is a larva not adult individual) so bravo for this great macro shot!
TFS and have a nice weekend,

Hi ravi,
wonderful shot superb sharp, great pov and composition, well taken

I like the large eyes and great definition in your image. Is this a baby cricket (nymph?)? I ask this because it seems semi-transparent, soft and without some of the colors I'd expect in an adult insect.
