There are almost 1,700 variations of mantis found all over the world.

The mantis attacks with two front legs .

The latin name of the praying mantis is Tenodera Sinensis.

Most mantis live in warm climates.

The mantis attacks butterflies, bees, beetles, frogs, spiders, mice, lizards, and small birds like humming birds etc. Some of our TN members have seen it killing humming birds.

The female sometimes eats the male after mating. The male is killed after mating and becomes source of nutrition for the female.

The mantis has good eyesight. It moves it eyes in the direction of the prey so well, this can be seen while photograping a mantis, observing the moves is really interesting.

The mantis sheds its skin twelve times before it is full grown.

Praying mantises bite the back of their victim's neck to paralyze it. It start eating the prey while its alive.

This is one unusual pose for the Mantis. Looks like a circus actor. Framing is yours alone and good. If I had room for all pictures I like to take as favorite, then this would be one...I'll take one of each. You are so good..
